When the City Was a House of Horrors
“’I liked the edge factor,’ Mr. Conn said. ‘Not knowing what kind of trouble I would get in next.’ He claims to have roamed the subways for hours at a time, with no more than a Hasselblad camera and his own blade in his pocket. For nearly a decade, he photographed the graffiti-scarred trains and the denizens of the subway system — capturing everyone from the homeless to...

Making Things
I just made a rough logo for a speech therapy company. Thoughts on how to develop it more? It look me not a lot of time to create. I am going to contact the potential client in order to see their previous samples. I want to get an idea for the branding and styles. I have not seen the company’s web site yet. The request for a logo was posted on a forum. I got the idea from audio waves since...

NYC 1978-1985
“Self-taught photographer Michael Sean Edwards has been an East Village staple for more than three decades, since moving to the once-gritty neighborhood from Toronto in 1977. Using “slow” film called Ektachrome Type B, Edwards documented neighborhood life with a cinematic touch and eye for detail: trash-can sculpture, a recurring graffiti tag, a doll on a street sign, the corner coffee...

Comic Con Photo Used on Ars Technica
So one of my photos from last year’s NYC Comic Con was picked for an article on Ars Technica. The article details how a pedophile site was taken down last week. Awesome! Read the rest of the article by clicking here.

Occupy Wall Street 10-21-11: Zuccotti Park
So I went down with a friend yesterday. It was my first time photographing down there. It’s not entirely like how you’ve read or seen it on the news. Come down and see. I am planning to visit more often in the future. View the rest of the set on Flickr.

I Miss
Using film, spending lonely nights in the dark room and smelling like caustic chemicals. Here’s an oldie from nearly 1.5 years ago.

Another Set of Trees Planted This Month
The Pomonok Houses in Queens received 145 new trees yesterday with the help of volunteers from Alcoa, City Year, and students from the Harvey Milk High School. I was surprised by how quickly these trees got planted in the ground. I believe it took nearly two hours to get them all in. Planters worked in groups of four to five, digging, planting and properly securing the trees.  View the rest of...

The 4th Annual Big Wheel Race
Yesterday I went with some friends to the Big Wheel Race that happened in Central Park. It is an annual event where folks brave the hilly areas of the park with whatever they can ride on. This is the third time that I attended this event. It was fun photographing it and seeing interesting characters. Too bad that I did not make an attempt to join in. Tights and concrete do not mix well...

Sometimes working on a Saturday is totally worth...
I had the opportunity of photographing during  the “MillionTreesNYC/American Express ‘Serve2Gether’ Community Planting Day,” at Co-Op City. Volunteers from the neighborhood including the Girl Scouts, helped with planting more than 260 trees (I believe). It was really amazing seeing this happening and being able to document it. I remember hanging out in the Greenway when I...
